Counseling Center

The Ubah Medical Academy Counseling Center is located in room 106.  Our Counselor, Jackie Oss, is available to work with students and their parents providing guidance in many areas.

Guidance

Students: Jackie offers guidance to students on a variety of issues; including personal issues, academic concerns, scheduling, credit evaluations, graduation progress, college and career planning, ACT registration, transitioning from high school to college, and much more.  She works closely with teachers and parents to help students achieve their goals.

Parents: Parents are welcome to stop in to meet the Ubah Counselor and see the Counseling Center.  For more information or to make an appointment, please call Jackie at 952-540-2947.

College Preparation

College Fairs: Each fall our juniors and seniors attend the National College Fair in Minneapolis.  This gives our students a good opportunity to get information about many area colleges, as well as colleges throughout the state and nation.  We also hosts a ‘mini’ college fair here at Ubah in which local college reps are invited to come and visit with our juniors and seniors about their programs.

College Prep Class: In the 2007-2008 school year, Ubah Medical Academy offered a college prep class as part of our after school program. The class was offered to seniors who were not enrolled in the Admission Possible program. The course helped seniors with the process of college applications, scholarships, and financial aid.

Admission Possible: is a competitive two year program that works with juniors and seniors from low income families in order to maximize their ability to be accepted into a four-year college or university. Ubah Medical Academy partners with Admission Possible to help students with the college admission process. Admission Possible is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping promising, low-income young people prepare for and earn admission to college. Each spring sophomores are invited to apply for enrollment into Admission Possible.

College in the Schools: delivers regular University of Minnesota credit courses to high-achieving high school students right at Ubah Medical Academy.  Selected Ubah teachers are appointed as affiliated U of M faculty and teach the U of M courses, supported by ongoing, discipline-specific professional development provided by U of M faculty.

PACE (Preparing to Achieve a College Education) program: is a Century College initiative that offers students the opportunity to take college classes for free and earn college credits while still in high school. Each spring sophomores who qualify are invited to apply for the PACE program.
