Courses

Unique Course Opportunities: Ubah offers course not available in most public schools. Because of our medical focus, Ubah offers CPR and First Aid training and certification for our students. Arabic classes are also part of our core curriculum.

After School Homework Help Program: Ubah offers an after school homework help program that helps students address their immediate needs in classes and core content area.

Accelerated Reader & Accelerated Math
Accelerated Reader (AR) is a reading product that students in grades 9, 10 and 12 utilize during their 25 minute daily reading class.  This program helps students:

  • Make essential reading practice more effective for every student.
  • Personalize reading practice to each student’s current level.
  • Assess students’ reading, vocabulary and literacy skills.  
  • Foster a lifelong love of reading and learning.

Accelerated Math (AM) is a product that students in grades and 12 utilize during their 25 minute daily math class.  This program provides essential math practice and:  

  • Allows teachers the ability to create math assignments tailored to each student's current level.
  • Automatically scores all math practice, including assignments and tests.
  • Provides ongoing feedback on students' daily practice.
  • Helps you differentiate math instruction, addressing each student’s individual needs.

Study Island provides Web-based standards mastery products.  All of their programs are built based on state standards.  They provide:   

  • Web-based instruction, practice, assessment and reporting built from MN state standards
  • Rigorous academic content that is both fun and engaging
  • Research-based with proven results for all students
  • Easy to use (in the lab, classroom, library or home)
Every student at Ubah Medical Academy has a Study Island username and password.  Go to www.theisland.com and encourage your child to show you how they work on class assignments via Study Island or how they can individually, independently work on skills that need sharpening.

Academic Success Program: Ubah offers an modified schedule in order to accommodate a weekly 90 minute program that helps students practice and prepare for the Minnesota state assessments.  Courses in reading and writing to assist our new language learners are also offered.  In addition, seniors have an option to take a course in college planning and preparation including completing college scholarship and entrance applications as well as financial aid forms.

Summer School Program: The summer school program at Ubah includes preparation for the state assessments given in the summer and enrichment courses for new language learners.  Students are also able to take courses for credit.  The courses offered for credit are determined by student need.


High Standards

Testing and Assessment: Ubah is a public school and must follow the state and federal guidelines for assessment.  In addition, the school uses the NWEA for internal data in math and reading as well as the IPT to make decisions about ELL placement.

2010-2011 Standard Assessments: For further information about assessment, visit the MN Department of Education’s Assessment and Testing website. A passing score on each of the GRAD assessments is required for graduation.  If a student does not pass the GRAD test, they will need to continue taking the exam until they pass.

9th Grade:

GRAD (Graduation Required Assessment for Diploma)—Written Composition

10th Grade:

MCA II Reading/GRAD Reading
MCA II Science

11th Grade:

MCA II Mathematics/GRAD Mathematics

12th Grade:

GRAD Mathematics/Reading/Written Composition for students who have not yet passed these exams.

Additional Assessments: Students who are considered LEP (Limited English Proficiency) will take:

TEAE (Test of Emerging Academic English)

MN SOLOM (MN Student Oral Language Observation Matrix).
